Serving Texas, Oregon and Washington
I specialize in therapy for women who grew up with emotionally immature caretakers/parents and are survivors of abuse. In sessions you will learn to identify your wounds, lessen the impact this has on your life today, heal the negative beliefs and pain, and shed the shame that is not yours to carry. You will learn to create a more balanced life for yourself where your happiness and feelings matter.
I offer a variety of evidence-based counseling services, depending on your needs and goals. These include: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I also offer specialized support for LGBTQ+ individuals. I am certified in ART and ACT and by Dr. Lindsay Gibson in the Treatment of Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents.
My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, compassion, non-judgment and never any BS. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where my clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and feelings about even the most sensitive topics (sex, money, discrimination, violence; no topic is off the table). Where my clients can build from their strengths and develop the additional skills and tools needed to thrive and create the life of their dreams. I honor the journey of every woman who has decided to break the cycle. If you've read this far... this is YOU!
After a career in the corporate world and Emergency Medical Services, I decided to make a lifelong dream come true and become a therapist. I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Masters in Social Work.
I am a survivor of Chronic Trauma, Neurodivergent, and a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). I know how difficult it is to overcome the feeling of 'being different' from others that can accompany you wherever you go. I have been gifted to walk the healing journey for myself and with other survivors. In other words, I am a therapist that "gets it". You will find acceptance and a safe place in our sessions.
I describe myself as a dog and cat person, but really I have a great affection for all animals. In my free time you may find me enjoying amusement parks, gardening, reading, painting, and traveling with friends and family.

PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS and CONNECTIONS
She’s sensational. Empathetic, challenging, engaging, intelligent, funny. She and I have really connected and her gentle assertiveness is really helping me with some challenges. So grateful to have found her.
At first ART seemed too simple; like it wouldn't be helpful at all. But I began to notice positive results by the very next day. What kind of magic is that?!
I learned that it's okay to ask people for what I need, and to accept they want to help. Never before have I done this! Suddenly I feel so much better about being ME!
Shirley makes me very comfortable in telling her what's on my mind. I appreciate her candor and humor.
Shirley is such a compassionate and knowledgeable therapist. A good listener, and she has great insight, and isn’t afraid to challenge you while still being understanding and nonjudgmental.
I feel safe to express myself without fear of judgement when in her presence.
